Privacy Policy
The short version: we do not ask who you are, and the figures you type into the calculator are not stored.
This policy explains what happens to data when you use ebayfee.com. It applies to this website only, and is written to meet our obligations under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What we collect
Information you give us
There are no accounts on this site, so you never give us a name, email address or payment details in order to use it. The only time you send us personal information is if you choose to email us, in which case we hold that message so we can reply to it.
Calculator inputs
The figures you type into the fee calculator — sale price, costs, category and so on — are sent to our server so the fees can be worked out, and the answer is sent straight back to your browser. Those figures are not written to a database, not attached to you, and not retained after the request finishes. They are also not personal data in any ordinary sense; they are numbers about a hypothetical sale.
Server logs
Like almost every website, our hosting keeps standard technical logs of requests, which can include your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser type. These are used to keep the site running and secure, and are deleted on a rolling basis. The lawful basis for this is our legitimate interest in operating a secure, functioning website.
Cookies
Essential cookies
We set a small number of cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to work, including a session cookie and a security token that protects the calculator form against cross-site request forgery. These do not track you between sites and cannot be switched off without breaking the site.
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, for example which calculators and guides people reach and whether pages are working on their device. It sets cookies that record a randomly generated identifier, the pages visited and rough location derived from the IP address. We use it to improve the site, never to identify individuals, and we do not combine it with anything else.
You can opt out of Google Analytics across every site you visit with Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or by declining analytics cookies in the consent message and clearing cookies in your browser.
Advertising cookies
This site is free and is funded by advertising supplied by Google AdSense. Advertising involves third parties placing cookies or similar technologies in your browser.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies more broadly at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.com.
- More detail on how Google uses data from sites that use its services is available at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Where the law requires it, analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you have given consent through the consent message shown on your first visit. You can change or withdraw that consent at any time using the privacy options in that message, and you can block or clear cookies through your browser settings at any point.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. The parties that may process data in connection with this site are our hosting provider, which stores the server logs described above, and Google, which provides both our analytics and our advertising.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it
- ask us to correct data that is inaccurate
- ask us to erase data, where we have no continuing reason to keep it
- object to or ask us to restrict processing based on legitimate interests
- withdraw consent for non-essential cookies at any time
- complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk if you think we have handled your data badly
In practice we hold very little that could identify you, so a request will often be answered by telling you exactly that. To make a request, email [email protected] with Privacy in the subject line.
Children
This site is aimed at people running or considering an online selling business and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13.
Links to other sites
Our guides link to eBay and to other external sites. We have no control over those sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Their own policies apply once you leave here.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new review date at the top. Material changes to how we handle data will be reflected here before they take effect.
Questions about any of this can go to [email protected], or via the contact page.
